Why choose DROPS Snow?
  • Super Bulky Pure Wool: DROPS Snow, formerly DROPS Eskimo, is a soft single-ply of 100% untreated wool with 50 m per 50 g. It is not superwash, so it stays springy and warm, and it felts readily.
  • Hats in an Evening: At 10 stitches per 10 cm on 9 mm needles, makers finish a hat in a few hours. As a soft single it can pull apart if tugged hard, so draw yarn gently from the ball and splice joins.
  • Warm Wear, Easy Felting: Sweaters, blankets and mittens come out warm and lofty, and the untreated wool felts well into slippers, bags and baskets. Hand wash at max 30°C and dry flat; expect some pilling on high-wear spots.
Description

DROPS Snow – Super Bulky Pure Wool for Weekend Projects

DROPS Snow is pure wool at its chunkiest: 9 mm needles, ten stitches to 10 cm, and a blanket or oversized jumper that grows visibly with every row. Because it isn't superwash-treated, it also felts beautifully — the classic choice for slippers, bags and baskets that need to end up firm and hard-wearing. Uni shades, heathered mixes and playful prints all sit in the same range, so you can mix and match within one project.

Why choose DROPS Snow?

  • Finished This Weekend: The super bulky gauge means a cowl in an evening and a blanket in a few sittings — perfect for beginners and last-minute gifts.
  • Felts On Purpose: Untreated pure wool felts predictably in the washing machine — ideal for slippers, baskets, bags and bowls.
  • Warm and Breathable: 100% wool insulates through the coldest winters while still letting skin breathe.

TIPS & TRICKS

Pro Tip: Felting shrinks length much more than width. In the Let It Snow felted slipper pattern, Snow knitted on 8 mm needles shrinks 25-30% in length and 10-15% in width, using 3 balls per pair. Felt a test swatch in your own machine first, as results vary.

About Product

How many balls of DROPS Snow for a hat?

Two balls cover most adult beanies. Super bulky hats typically need 70–100 m, and each 50 g ball holds 50 m, so 70–100 m ÷ 50 m gives 2 balls. A large pompom takes about another 20–30 m, so add a third ball if you want one in the same shade.

How many balls of DROPS Snow for a blanket?

A throw of about 100 × 130 cm typically takes 14–18 balls. Super bulky blankets of that size use roughly 700–900 m, and each ball holds 50 m, so 700–900 m ÷ 50 m gives 14–18 balls. Garter stitch and cables use more yarn, so round up for those.

Is DROPS Snow the same as DROPS Eskimo?

Yes, DROPS Snow is the yarn previously sold as DROPS Eskimo. Older Eskimo patterns can be knitted with Snow at the same gauge of 10 stitches and 14 rows per 10 cm on 9 mm needles. Check the pattern's metres against Snow's 50 m per ball when working out quantities.

Is DROPS Snow itchy?

It is a soft single-ply wool, but it is not labelled as merino, so sensitive skin may feel some prickle at the neck. Most people wear it happily in hats, outer sweaters and slippers. For a cowl or a close-fitting collar, test a swatch against your neck first.
