Why choose Rico Craft Wadding – Toy & Cushion Filling?
    • Polyester Toy Wadding: Rico's synthetic wadding is 100% polyester in 250 g or 500 g bags. Rico describes it as super soft, feather-light and odorless, and rates one 250 g bag for a doll about 40 cm tall.
    • Fluff, Then Fill: Tease each tuft apart and roll it smooth before it goes in, then build thin layers pressed into the edges with a chopstick. Lumps and stray fibers poking through stitches usually come from big wads.
    • Toys, Cushions, Wreaths: Use it for amigurumi, dolls, cushions and stuffed crochet wreaths; Rico's own chenille wreath pattern calls for it. The filling washes at 40°C and tumble-dries, so your yarn's label decides a toy's care.

Rico Craft Wadding – What Goes Inside the Toy

Soft, springy polyester filling for amigurumi, cushions, pincushions, wreaths and any soft toy that needs a body. It pulls apart easily into small tufts, which is exactly what you want for crocheted toys: you can fill a head firmly enough to hold its shape without creating the lumps that show through the stitches.

šŸ’” Tip: Add the filling in small pieces rather than one handful — a little at a time, pressed into the corners with the back of a hook, and the finished shape stays smooth. Firm feels right in the hand; over-stuffed splits the stitches.

    Why choose this filling?

    • Holds Its Shape: The fibres spring back rather than compacting, so a toy that gets squeezed daily still looks the same in six months.
    • Washable: Polyester filling does not absorb water the way natural stuffing does, so a finished toy can be washed and dried without turning heavy or clumping.
    • Two Sizes: The 250 g bag suits a batch of small amigurumi; the 500 g bag is the one to buy if you are filling cushions or making toys to sell.

    TIPS & TRICKS

Pro Tip: If white filling shows through dark or chenille stitches, crochet tighter with a smaller hook, or put a scrap of matching nylon stocking inside the piece and fill that, so any gaps show color instead of white. Firm is good; overstuffing stretches the stitches open.

    About Product

What is the difference between Rico Craft Wadding and Rico Stuffing Fibres?

Both are 100% polyester filling from Rico; the main differences are bag size and form. Craft Wadding comes in 250 g and 500 g bags for larger toys, cushions and batches of amigurumi, while Rico Stuffing Fibres is a 100 g bag of pearl-type fibre, handy when you only need to fill a few small toys.

Should I stuff a crocheted wreath with Rico Craft Wadding or use a polystyrene ring?

Use wadding for a soft, squishy crocheted tube and a polystyrene ring for a firm, flat-backed base. A stuffed tube suits chenille or plush wreaths and stays light, while a Rico Polystyrene Half Ring keeps a perfectly round shape, lies flat against a door and suits wrapped yarn or pinned motifs.

Can I put a rattle or squeaker inside a toy stuffed with Rico Craft Wadding?

Yes, fill the toy halfway, set the insert in the centre, then pack wadding all around it so it cannot be felt as a hard lump or shift towards a seam. Rattle Balls and Squeaker Inserts both work this way. For toys for children under three, close the opening with tight, secure stitches.
